I need Indian Recipes!!!!
April 18, 2008 by Jenny
I’m having a dinner party on Saturday the 26th. It’s one of those “dinner club” things and this time it’s at my house. We’re supposed to make Indian food. I’m not very good with spicy food, but I’m going to try to be adventurous. Does anyone have any good mild Indian recipes? Someone is bringing Butter chicken (their Indian gramma is helping them make it!) and naan.
I’d also like some recipes for a good alcoholic Indian drink. Perhaps if I make those really well, they won’t care if my food is bad.
Did you decide on your menu yet?
If not, my favorite is Chicken Tandoori. It needs to marinate, but there is still time.
I’m sure you will find lots of recipes online, but the general idea is: you lightly score the surface of skinless chicken in a criss-cross pattern (thighs and drumsticks are best), then marinate in a natural yogurt/spice mixture. Use plain yogurt, not flavored or non-fat. Spices include ginger, cumin, etc. Then you grill it (or bake it).
Simple as can be, and everyone I have ever made it for has liked it. not spicy at all, if you do not make it so.
You should have rice on hand for the meal. Also think about having a few cucumber slices on hand as a side order. Raw onion pieces, too. I think this is slightly in fashion o’er there.
[Note: one recipe says to baste the chicken with the marinade as it cooks. I advise against this, as you don't want anyone eating partially cooked raw chicken marinade]
Have a nice time.
Oh my GOD that sounds DELICIOUS! But, alas, it will have to wait until another time … someone is making butter chicken and someone else is making another chicken thing (I forget the name).
I ended up picking a recipe with cauliflower, potatoes, ginger, tumeric, cumin, etc. etc. It’s easy, quick and portable (we have to move the party to my friends house because her babysitter is sick). I’m also bringing samosas that I found in the deli. They come with a mango sauce that looks yummy!
